Course Syllabus

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES of the INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Student eligibility in the Intern Career Experience Program requires senior class standing, a genuine career interest, at least a C average, a good attendance record, and teacher recommendations.  Students must provide their own transportation.  Participation includes the internship experience and seminar class activities.  The student receives academic credit and a grade.  The student will:

 1.     Identify his/her current career interest(s) and future goals.

 2.     Complete all necessary forms and demonstrate an understanding of the rules, regulations, and expectations of the program. 

3.   Understand the correlation between the tasks to be performed at the intern site and the basic foundation skills and competencies to be achieved or enhanced.

4.     Follow the learning/training plan as developed cooperatively between the sponsoring organization and the school coordinator.

 5.     Attend all seminar classes as scheduled by the coordinator.  If unable to attend, make arrangements to meet on an individual basis to discuss any work missed.

 6.     Complete seminar activities assigned and be able to discuss topics such as Policies, Protocol, and Chain of Command; Safety; Standards of Conduct - Ethics, Integrity, Loyalty, and Honesty; Required Skills and Competencies; Teamwork; Discrimination, Harassment, and Diversity; Communication Skills; and Hiring Practices specific to the individual intern site and selected career field.

 7      Keep daily logs and complete weekly time sheets as scheduled.

 8.     Complete a final exam on the internship experience.

9.      Evaluate the career internship experience using the form provided.

10.    Write and send a thank-you letter to your mentor.

11.    Determine whether or not this is the career field he/she wishes to pursue.
