Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits.

-Thomas Jefferson

If you believe Thomas Jefferson, then you will quickly realize that if you are unwell, not much else matters.  So, perhaps this course could be the most important and relevant you have ever taken.  This course is designed to increase your understanding of your own personal physical, mental, social and emotional health.  You will explore topics related to your own health related decision making and will examine tools that will enable you to make improved decisions. You will also have an opportunity to examine community health resources available to you now and in the future.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Students must have access to a reliable computer with high-speed internet access (Google chrome works best).  I-pads are great for researching, reading, or viewing materials however a desktop works best for creating documents or working on your online portfolio.

PARTICIPATION EXPECTATIONS
Health and Wellness is a 1-credit, completely online course. There are no required face-to-face sessions, but students will be required to login at least 2-3 times at the beginning, middle, and end of each week.  Students will spend approximately 2.5 weeks completing the required tasks for each module. Many of the course projects involve collaborative and detailed work, and therefore students should plan ahead and allocate the time needed to such projects.

Students are expected to complete all assignments by 11:59 p.m. on the scheduled due dates. (Due dates will tend to fall on either a Monday or Friday)   Failure to do so will result in a 20% deduction per day.  Assignments will no longer be accepted after 1 week. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, students are to communicate with their instructor as soon as possible to make necessary accommodations. Students who are planning to travel or be away from wi-fi access for more than 2 days should communicate with me in advance to make arrangements.

HELP-SEEKING STRATEGIES
Please be proactive and seek help whenever possible. The online environment is full of helpful people and resources.  If you are having a problem, reach out to those around you who might be able to help. Consider the following:

  • Discussions.  You are encouraged to communicate with your group or others taking the class if you think they can help.
  • Instructor Support. You can contact me anytime using the Canvas mail. This is located in the upper right corner, called “inbox.” I will respond to your emails within 24 hours. You can also use the “help” resource, and select “ask your instructor a question.”
  • Technical Support. If you are having issues with Canvas, you may use the “help” link to search the Canvas guides, or report a problem. As a rule of thumb, try using a different internet browser or reboot your device. For technical support related to your hardware, please notify your teacher or Mr. Lamb and he/she will file a help ticket with the Center Grove Technology Department. Try this link to help you troubleshoot.
  • Online Support. If you have a question regarding Center Grove Global Campus in general, please contact the eLearning Coordinator, Joe Lamb at lambj@centergrove.k12.in.us.
